At the National Association of the 10th Mountain Division, we believe every veteran deserves the support they need to live life to the fullest. Our Service Dog Program provides highly trained service dogs at no cost to our disabled members, offering renewed independence and companionship.
About Our Program
Through our innovative shelter-to-service program, we rescue and train exceptional dogs to become life-changing companions for our members. Each service dog is specially trained to assist with various needs, including:
– PTSD support and episode recognition
– Mobility assistance
– Emergency response
– Daily task assistance
– Item retrieval
– Emotional support
Who Can Apply?
Our program is available to members of the National Association of the 10th Mountain Division who:
– Have service-related PTSD, traumatic brain injury, and/or physical disabilities
– Can demonstrate a verifiable medical need for a service dog
– Are able to attend our 2-3 session Team Training program in Pulaski, New York
– Can provide proper care and maintenance for a service dog
How It Works
1. Application Process
– Submit a comprehensive application detailing your needs and home environment
– Undergo eligibility review by our executive staff
– Participate in an interview to assess readiness
– Receive notification of application status via email
2. Dog Matching
Once approved, we carefully match you with a service dog based on:
– Your specific needs and lifestyle
– The dog’s temperament and abilities
– Required assistance tasks
3. Team Training
– Attend a 2-3 session training program at our Certified K9 facility
– Learn essential handling skills from experienced trainers
– Bond with your new service dog
– Receive certification as a working team
